About this deal

In this book you can learn hieroglyphics and roman numerals because of the page numbers and the end of the book the last pages explain the hieroglyphics in a way which is easy to understand. This is the only reason why this first Julius Zebra book by Gary Northfield has sat unread on my TBR pile for some time, as I have really enjoyed some of his work in the Beano and The Phoenix comic. From a smelly water hole on the African savanna; Julius Zebra is captured; along with Milus the scarred lion and Cornelius the clueless warthog. Imagine Gladiator, Ben Hur or Spartacus, where the hero is replaced by a rather nervous, slightly daft and totally naive zebra, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Rumble with the Romans. What happens when you mix the gladiatorial combat of ancient Rome with a fast-talking creature who is DEFINITELY NOT A STRIPY HORSE?

Though you can imagine how that looks given that, with the exception of Milus, none of them know what the hell to do. Emperor Hadrian has one last favour to ask of the gladiator animals before he will grant them their greatest wish freedom. There are black and white illustrations throughout, most accompanied by speech bubbles, or diagrams, such as Julius pointing out the difference between a horse and a zebra. Every pictures is silly and I’ll admit I laughed aloud on more than one occasion from the pictures alone! Then a fancy boat procession will take them down the River Nile to Memphis where a lavish party will be thrown in Julius’s honour – as well as an obligatory tour of the Pyramids.

So after one of Julius’s fights Emperor Hadrian told them to go to Britannia and fight the gladiators. Dej sa posúval v akýchsi vlnách - chvíľu som sa od neho nevedela odtrhnúť, chvíľu som sa krútila dookola a nudila v tej istej istej zápletke a následne sa zjavilo opäť niečo nové. I thought the history in the book was a little bit true and it makes me want to know more about ancient Egypt. Emperor Hadrian tells Julius Zebra that he will grant him freedom if he and his friends fight against the vicious and brave animals in Britannia.

Po dlhej ceste z Afriky až do Ríma je aj s ostatnými zvieratami vhodený do Kolosea, kde preukáže veľkú odvahu a cisár Hadrián mu udelí šancu vybojovať si slobodu.I've studied the Egyptians at school and the history rang true although I wasn't quite sure if it's really true that Heter was a real horse God, although there was a statue of him. I have been working as a professional archaeologist for many years and am looking forward to answering any questions you have about archaeology. Stay tuned for the next book in the series… I can't wait to find out what happens to Julius, the not-so-boring zebra! This is a series of books that I can see both girls and boys really sinking their teeth into, and actually wanting to read. I would love to read more books by this author because I really enjoyed The 'Entangled with the Egyptians' book because it was extremely funny and I really enjoyed reading it.Gary's work is also published in The Beano, The Dandy and National Geographic Kids among many other magazines. I would recommend this book because it is adventurous especially when Julius goes on a boat from Rome to Britannia. After being shipwrecked on the shores of Egypt; Julius Zebra cant believe his luck: he is been mistaken for a Horse God and given the royal treatment. Derek the Sheep began appearing in The Beano from February 2004, and is unique in that it is The Beano 's first and only creator-owned character. This is because he was brave, kind and helpful and whenever one of the animals in the book needed help or comforting, Cornelius would be there in a jiff!He also illustrated the children's books Henry VIII Has To Choose and Sleeping Beauty: 100 Years Later, for Franklin Watts. After being shipwrecked on the shores of Egypt and mistaken for a Horse God, Julius can't believe his luck! I really enjoyed Julius Zebra by Garry Northfield because it was funny and at some points even intense and I learned loads of things about the Romans along the way. I would recommend this book a lot to 9-10 year olds as it is incredibly funny and includes enriching vocabulary. and it feels like some classic British comedies where there’s a lot of silliness and slapstick involved.
