About this deal

Together with his translator, they must find a way out of hostile territory to an extraction point in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Zack Snyder’s 300is his most notable role to date, but Butler also seems to follow Neelson’s same trajectory as he stars in one action slog after the next with similar plot lines and one-note performances.

After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point inKandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down. Pivotal to the kingdom’s success as a truly global production hub, though, is its desire to attract big-name international productions that will put it on the map and etch the image of Saudi Arabia into the minds of global audiences. Kandahar fares better once Ric Roman Waugh shifts into his wheelhouse house, as the nature of Tom’s presence is exposed, meeting that the only option is a race to the particular extraction point. Saudi Arabia’s Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud said of Journey to Mecca: “It provides a wonderful opportunity for Muslims to celebrate a revered hero in Ibn Battuta and to honour our faith. The story begins in Iran with Tom Harris (Butler) with his partner Oliver (Tom Rhys Harries) working on wiring at a nuclear plant center.Gerard Butler plays undercover CIA operative Tom Harris, posing as a construction worker in Iran alongside his field partner Oliver Altman (Tom Rhys Harries), claiming they are doing work to boost Internet signals, but are looking to shut down the country’s nuclear weapons operations remotely. Kandahar was shot in the AlUla region of Saudi Arabia, a location perfect for setting the mood for Butler’s intense new thriller. The film's director Waugh added, “[w]hat made Mitch LaFortune’s visceral script so compelling and unique for me is its authenticity and how he humanizes not just our heroes, but all the characters portrayed in a region that’s been locked in a perpetual cycle of violence.

Even though the CIA agent is on the run, Roman asks for one more short-term job to destroy another power plant, to which Harris says yes for some reason. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 52 out of 100, based on 23 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews. It is co-funded by Saudi media giant MBC and is shooting extensively in AlUla, as well as locations in Tabuk, Hail, Jeddah and Taif. Ric Roman Waugh certainly knows how to stage bombastic destruction, and it is admirable that he wants to tell a thoughtful story around that, but he also gets lost within too many characters and groups when the compelling dynamic between Tom and his translator Mo provides more than enough riveting drama capable of providing weight to the impending action throughout the back half of Kandahar. That mission turns out to be an explosive success, taking Tom to another job in Afghanistan that he doesn’t want to take but quickly reconsiders based on the amount of cash thrown at him by his superior (Travis Fimmel). Maybe there is something about chronicling history based on actual events that hold something over these made-up western savior narratives that have nothing going for them except to be monotonous, xenophobic and a complete bore. Robert Kojder is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association and the Critics Choice Association. She receives evidence from a whistle blower of the CIA's ongoing sabotage of Iran's nuclear programs. Farzad and Pakistani security services learn Tom is in Herat, and each sends operatives to apprehend him, with Pakistan wanting to ransom Tom to the highest bidder. He based it on his experiences working for the Defense Intelligence Agency and being deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 during the Snowden leaks. It follows Battuta from his native Morocco to Makkah, meeting Bedouins, bandits and fellow pilgrims on the way.
