The KPH30i is a headphone that you might think you can easily find if you would rummage through a computer parts bin, but it truly is a gem in the rough. I (and many others) have gone on at length about the superb 60ohm, 35mm driver found in the Porta Pro, Sporta Pro, KPH30i, and the KSC35. Their design looks frightfully unimpressive even by 1998 standards, never mind our elevated 2018 expectations. After 3- and 4-hour listening sessions, the Porta Pro Wireless tend to still have more than 80 percent of their charge remaining, and I never feel in danger of running them down too quickly.

Unsurprisingly, we find the classic Koss red and white packaging with a large plastic front window and clear plastic insert. With better upstream gear, the midrange is even better, it adds a bit more clarity and dynamics to it, giving life to the vocalist, further separating him/her from the other instruments. They are available in four colors, with the grey/black and white/blue versions looking particularly modern and the rhythm beige and (new) clear versions ‘clearly’ targeting retro enthusiasts. While Koss hasn’t delivered an abject failure with its 2018 update, the company certainly hasn’t done enough of the hard work of integrating the old with the new in a smooth and coherent manner.
