I'm only hoping my experience may help someone else carrying out these tasks for the first time, as I was. Introducing 1/2" drive triple square socket bits from our own brand RS PRO, a selection of high quality and reliable socket bits to choose from, designed for use with wrench tools with a 1/2" drive. Upon reassembly I recommend fitting a new o-ring on the shaft, the outer seal can be cleaned and packed with silicone grease. Excellent that's what i bought, the sockets are pretty rusted though and I hope I can get these to seat properly. Thank you to everyone else also, this has given me far more confidence to do the work and what tools are needed!

RS PRO 1/2" triple square socket bits are available in a variety of sizes and make an excellent addition to any socket set and are ideal for applications that use triple square screws and fasteners.Once seal and piston are fitted and ready to be rewound fully into the caliper, either use a proper tool or improvise with wide pipe grips to grip the very end of the piston and rotate bit by bit to screw it in. Do you know if this is the correct socket bit to remove the two big bolts holding in the caliper carrier?

If the dust seals have worn and perished to the extent they are letting dirt in, then the best course of action to to replace the caliper as the dirt will have scored the bore and the seal kits will be useless and will soon leak fluid. Oh, I had sprayed the bolts wherever I could with penetrating fluid, each day for a week beforehand. Push gently on the piston whilst rotating and you will feel the lug on handbrake mechanism locate onto its recess. FINACNE TABLE START ------------> I know on the fronts I can use compressed air to blow them out as I have done that before, however with the rears I’m unsure if they need winding out or blowing out… or some total other method. I'm pleased that I managed it with limited facilities and I did clean the threads and reused the bolts with a little blue Loctite on the threads and tightened them using a torque wrench. I still say for what it costs you should get the up to date version for your chassis number from ErWin if you are actually doing these kind of things yourself. It'll be the latter that'll be more difficult to find, I reckon, although I think I could modify an existing seal to do the job.I tried to remove the bolts dry but they were too tight, I got several different length socket tool and sprayed daily. The caliper pistons on the MK2 octy (pre FL and FL, they use the same brake systems) need a windback tool, to remove or replace them.
