About this deal

Especially since you can supersample your games for a sharper image, provided you have enough GPU horsepower). This tends to introduce image doubling and other artifacts, but it was less noticeable on the G7 Odyssey than other monitors – though the response time is so good you probably don’t need it anyway. And since you didn't mention this in the review, it could also be usefull to know, what firmware version your review monitor was using? Since it uses a VA panel, black levels are deeper than you’d find on IPS displays, so it’s a good monitor for playing games at night in a dark room – though it did fall a bit short of its promised contrast ratio, with our model measuring 2033:1 instead of the Samsung’s quoted 2500:1.

However, many users have reported flickering with their Odyssey monitors when adaptive refresh is turned on. Frame rates in Tomb Raider hit 200 frames per second (fps) a few times with sustained speeds around 180 fps. By most measures, this is a fabulous gaming monitor and one that comprehensively shelves the idea that VA panels aren’t fast enough for gaming. The wraparound effect created by the 1000R curve and large 32in panel adds further to the sense of immersion and, if you’re finding it tough to make out shadow details, the G7’s black equalizer control is at hand to help lift details in dark corners. Whether you enjoy a curve that deep is personal preference – I’m not aware of anyone that wanted more curve, with most people preferring little to no curve – but it’s there. With Auto Source Switch+, your monitor detects when connected devices are turned on and instantly switches to the new source signal.

Most people will probably enjoy the more vivid colors anyway, and it’s a quirk common with every wide gamut display out there, so it’s not a knock against the monitor – though if you’re doing any color-sensitive work, you’ll want to calibrate the monitor or flip into sRGB mode. There is a good argument that anything over 144Hz is excessive given how little different you'll see in the jump between 144-240Hz, but with the latest graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD powering gaming PCs you can expect many low-demand titles easily smashing past 144fps. To all that you can add a two-port USB-A hub, Samsung’s rear-mounted Core LED mood lighting and a height and tilt adjustable stand and chassis with styling and build quality that blows most PC monitors out of the water. but this model from Samsung also has some raised concearns from other users, about image flickering when having VRR functionality activated(freesync and G-sync).I sincerly doubt that particular BenQ monitor features a VA panel that can keep up with this latest VA panel from Samsung, that currently wears "the crown", when it comes to pixel respons times in monitors of this size. If you prefer, you can use Dynamic Brightness which modulates the entire backlight where local dimming selectively dims just parts of it.
