About this deal
This is actually another reason why no ONT SFPs – need them for each vendor to offer the service across the board. This modem comes with a back-up battery Pack (BBU) in a white box, which enables your phone to continue to work after a power cut.

Whilst no one needs to be in for this, a decision maker needs to be present when we install your connection. We’ll run a fibre optic cable, from a nearby telegraph pole or underground, to a small junction box on an external wall.
Think of LOS as showing a cut in the fibre connection, whereas PON is indicating your connection at the other end of the network.

Particularly if all cabling is via the back and passive PoE splitters are used to power it from elsewhere. I guess its because some households already have an ONT modem thats functional so no need for openreach. I would have liked to see an SFP ONT option too for those who would rather cut out the separate ONT. And TBH copper lines that long must cost fortunes per premises to maintain so there is possibly a better commercial case to doing this than meets the first glance.Underneath the box, from left to right, are 3 connectors – power, LAN out (this one goes to your router), optical fibre in.

How many people do you reckon are going to use SFPs and how’s the commercial viability of both providing those and then troubleshooting them given you now have a demarcation not across a piece of cable and a box you control but within an SFP cage connected to a device you do not? PoE does not need a PoE switch simply a PoE injector built into power transformer (like some WIFI APs have). If you've got Fibre to the Home or Fibre Home Phone you'll get a modem, a battery back-up unit and a BT Hub (if you don't have one already).
