About this deal
Superstar, author and illustrator Rob Biddulph dazzles in Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City, the first title in a brand new adventure series for boys and girls of 8+. Peanut is aided and accompanied by her new science-loving friend, Rockwell, and her genius younger sibling, Little Bit. The book is also rich in STEM details and I loved how Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City demonstrates that creative thinking is not just confined to art. Her big brother won’t hang out with her anymore, and her mum’s seriously sleazy boss seems intent on taking her mum out for dinner.
Rockwell, her 'Study Buddy', seems to be more into exams, tests, and is nice, but less brave and an egghead. My son and I have long been fans of Rob Biddulph’s picture books so I was really excited to learn that he had written a middle grade book and delighted to get my hands on an advance copy. His third, Odd Dog Out, was nominated for a total of eight literary prizes, winning the BSC Festival of Literature Picture Book Award and the UKLA Student Shadower’s Vote Book Award.
But there’s a world hidden behind a secret door filled with strange and wonderful things – a world Peanut unlocks with a pencil. was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for The People's Book Award and Oscar's Book Prize. It was great watching the relationship develop between Peanut and Rockwell – two fully realised characters who I’m in love with for very different reasons.
