About this deal

He put a lot of emphasis on takeaway food being bad which is a very antiquated and myopic way of thinking. It’s blatantly obvious this book is written by a cis het white man for example when he describes the dangers of sex and alcohol as being sleeping with someone ugly that you wouldn’t have picked sober instead of the far more dangerous reality of sexual violence which alcohol is a massive part of. Having previously been locked up in a psychiatric ward for addiction and mental health problems, he got sober and helped individuals build strong bodies and minds as a qualified therapist and strength and conditioning coach. He speaks about how drugs and alcohol were his way of dealing with his trauma but he also shares the traumas that occurred as a result of drinking and drugging. We talk about overcoming depression, suicide, living with a disability and the amazing things Emily is now up to in her sobriety - it's exactly what sobriety is about, having the time and energy to do EVERYTHING!

The book focuses on why to get sober, how it will improve your life, etc so if you’ve read a couple of sobriety books before, you may not get anything new here. Finally, I always go to sea as a sailor, because of the wholesome exercise and pure air of the fore-castle deck. Living a sober life on a drunk planet is challenging but once you get used to saying NO and feeling good, you don’t care what other people do! He is eight weeks sober and we catch up to find out more about his motivation to get sober, what life was like when he was drunk and how he has noticed powerful changes in only 8 weeks. We discuss the common anxiety from getting blackout drunk the night before and the worry and dread that pursues the morning after. We also venture into the fun world of sober dating, seeing what comes up for Megan when we discuss her relationship with dating and how she feels about doing it sober. I highly recommend for anyone who is sober curious, newly sober, or anyone contemplating drinking again. Sean's first book, 'Sober on a Drunk Planet' whilst on holiday at an all-inclusive resort, drinks on tap 24/7 if you were so inclined.

He talks candidly about his own addiction whilst at the same time explaining the facts and figures about why we should stop drinking. We also talk around our negative relationship with money and how this was largely unmanageable during both of our addictions. It isn't just people who know they have a problem who stand to benefit from giving up alcohol – it's everyone.

years have been incredibly challenging from a financial perspective as it's a daily reminder of my troubled past. Here we talk to amazing guests about their battles with alcohol and other drugs and how getting sober allowed them to live a life unimaginable when they were drunk or high (or both!
