Although they are not the remains of the missing little girl, Galloway is intrigued by the letters and the details about the girl’s disappearance and starts helping Detective Nelson to either find her dead or alive. Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway novels take for their inspiration Elly's husband, who gave up a city job to train as an archaeologist, and her aunt who lives on the Norfolk coast and who filled her niece's head with the myths and legends of that area. Two lands of Egypt, not some form of a “third” division, made up by the entirely separate Sinai Peninsula. Several restaurants are found across the two islands, and these eateries feature dishes created with freshly-caught seafood and local produce. The Printworks offers a good environment for studying with sound proof rooms and the study room is very helpful when you don't want to walk to the library.

The series is highly recommended for its strong character development and ability to evoke strong emotions. An earlier Patterns of Evidence documentary, Exodus, makes the convincing case for the Israelites as the “Hyksos” people that were expelled from Egypt in the mid-second millennium b. The route here travels over the high limestone cliffs, over the beach dunes, and through marine wetlands, all of it untouched and incredible. Mother Hook was a notorious murderess who would kill babies and sell their bodies to the Resurrection Men.

The Crossing Places is the first book in the Ruth Galloway series by award-winning British author, Elly Griffiths. This book series, with its strong cast, immersive world-building, compelling characters, and thrilling stories, is a must-read. The stories in each book are standalone, however, the interaction between the main characters (namely Ruth and Detective Chief Inspector Harry Nelson) are not.
