The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur | Waterstones The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur | Waterstones

Illustrated by Kaur, The Sun and Her Flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming. Instead we should also legitimise the love of selflessly hard-working parents, the fading love of a distant friend, love as an act of giving. En conclusión: Si eres una mujer de color, seguro encontraras al menos un poema con el que te sentirás completamente identificada, y si eres cualquier otra persona te recomiendo muchísimo más que lo leas, ya que te permitirá ver lo que una mujer que ha pasado por este tipo de situaciones siente y quizá logres ver la vida y el mundo en general desde otra perspectiva. the sun and her flowers appeals mainly to a young audience who may have first become acquainted with Kaur’s work on Instagram, the social media site where many of her poems, including those in the sun and her flowers, were first published. As a man this book touched me because I never was aware of all the different ways we try to make women conform to 'our' idea of what they should be. Divided into five chapters and illustrated by Kaur, the sun and her flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming.

the sun and her flowers by Rupi Kaur Poetry review: the sun and her flowers by Rupi Kaur

The book is divided into 7 sections reflecting the life cycle of a flower, with chapters titled: Wilting, Falling, Rooting, Rising, and Blooming. The pieces speaking about some of the hardest topics seem so surface level, I felt wrong reading it. Kaur explains that was such a beautiful representation of love and relationships: the sun could represent a woman and the flowers could be the relationships that she has through life. However, the brave honesty of Kaur figures her as a literary revolutionary, fighting against oppression through fragmentation and the dismantling of taboo.I recognised myself in the girl she describes and reading this collection made me feel less alone – if that’s not good poetry then what is? She was writing inspirational poetry long before Rupi Kaur was even born and Angelou passed away the year that milk and honey was published.

Rupi wanted her books to be accessible for her readers and fought to release them as paperbacks first. Anyways, I could go on and on about how much her work mirrors the work of lesser-known authors, but I think most readers already know this. The Sunday Times review described the book as "alluding repeatedly to the personal damage of growing up in a world of abusive men, while being full of determination to recover. The Guardian review quoted poems from Kaur's collection and explained how simplistic the language often is.Rupi Kaur has again delivered a palpable collection of perspective on varying issues of significance that range from love to heartbreak and all the things in between.
