Note : If there is a software update available for your device, you need to install this before you can update your maps. The update(s) are first downloaded to your computer, then transferred to your navigation device, and finally installed and prepared for use. Some maps allow you to select versions with different country coverage so you can install a smaller map that still suits your needs.

We could pick between curvy and hilly routes, plus their severity, with the selection of roads changing as we moved from one level to the next. The menu interface is identical across the TomTom range, meaning settings are easy to navigate, plus a responsive touchscreen means typing addresses is quick. If you added stops to your route in MyDrive, the app respects them in the routing but they are not shown as stops. Like the TomTom, the Mio comes with a side bar on the right of the screen, showing the estimated time of arrival and distance to the destination. When you create a route in TomTom MyDrive that you want to use in the TomTom GO Ride app, make sure you select to sync the route.
Sometimes an installation can get interrupted or stuck, or you may see a map listed as Corrupted under My Maps . The section My Maps shows all the maps that were included with your device and that you have purchased for it, so you can freely install or swap these around. Route choice was good, apart from sticking to main roads during busy periods and missing key roadworks. We found the map layout the better of the two; it’s typical TomTom with clear, easy-to-follow instructions and a sidebar that shows everything from traffic hold-ups to speed cameras. If your software is not up to date you may experience issues, please make sure your device is on the latest software .
Like the TomTom Go Discover (below), the DriveSmart uses WiFi to update the maps, speed camera info and other alerts, and to give live traffic data. Depending on which device you have, you might choose to free up space before installing a map, select a smaller version of a map, or expand the device’s memory capacity with an SD card. If you haven’t used a TomTom device in a while, the features on this new Go Discover unit will seem incredible. As the cheapest sat-nav here, Mio’s Spirit 5400 LM does without many of the pricier models’ bells and whistles. Voice instructions were clear and the map easy to follow, even on the smaller screen, while handy danger zone warnings included the likes of schools and speed cameras. Once the unit is directing you it works brilliantly, but it can be hit-and-miss entering an address, whether through voice recognition or the touchscreen.It was on the move the TomTom Start 52 impressed most, though – its directions were accurate and the map layout was easy to read. We recommend that you use a wired connection for your computer to avoid connectivity issues with your Wi-Fi network. If your TomTom device is not working properly, this may be caused by either a software or a hardware issue. On some of our larger devices there is an extra locking mechanism to the rear of the mount which may also need adjusting. If you have several maps installed you can delete maps to free up space, but you always need to have at least one map installed on your device.
