About this deal

I agree, in principle, with the idea that a lens should serve your vision rather than provide it, but I’m not above using the rendering of this lens at f/0. There are a lot of photo/video cameras that have found a role as B-cameras on professional film productions or even A-cameras for amateur and independent productions. This lens makes use of the classic Cooke Triplet design that saw the light of day more than 100 years ago. And if they would do such a lens, it would be insane if they made some software tweaks to get some focus peaking/digital parallax focus for the OVF.

I’m also thinking of upgrading the 35mm for VM version 3 or the SE but the gain in performance seems not as big as with the 50. In extreme scenes like the one below you can easily spot longidutinal CA, but without having done a direct comparison it seems to me loCA are slightly better corrected than on the Zhong Yi 50mm 0. sounds so good (and one cannot discount the bragging rights :)), but seems to limit the versatility of a lens too much. To view the purposes they believe they have legitimate interest for, or to object to this data processing use the vendor list link below. Obviously live-view camera owners need not worry about this, but for rangefinder owners who may not have access to an LCD screen or live view, this means that when focusing closer than two meters, you can either intentionally compensate using the focus ring, or focus then do a little lean away from the subject to make up the difference. To your point, in the example photo provided, if shooting at F4 , the focus “zone” is 3m to infinity. there are no electronic contacts to the camera which also means you will not have any EXIF information in your files. They also vary things more and aren't afraid to copy classic designs (a nice change from Fuji's current bland design they give their premium f1.

While the lens was sent to us for review, TTArtisans is completely independent of what content the review contains.Anyway I threw in a few half-body portrait shots using natural light, since you mentioned that above. Both lens and camera are reminiscent of old-school film cameras so I feel good even before I leave home. So far this lens only comes in M-mount, but maybe we will also be seeing an E-mount version as was already the case with the TTArtisan 11mm 2. Though , this remains an option for those looking for pale imitations with a lower entry point as regards the cost.

This feature/quality predestines this lens for poetic and atmospheric images (portraits, moody landscapes with soft sunrise/sundown light or even better with some fog and haze, rainy street scenes. Of course, there are offerings from TTArtisan, 7Artisans, Zeiss, Voigtlander and others that will be almost as fast and also less expensive and lighter. Even with images at further distances, you can create separation and quantify the out-of-focus areas easier at f/0. Not only do they have autofocus but they provide a better experience shooting the full aperture range of a lens.Things tend to calm considerably and are quite dreamy at closer focus distances, though I was able to make some wiry looking nonsense by shooting tree branches at MFD. But if you find inspiration in vintage photographs or movies then the pleasing soft rendition of this lens will reward you with distinctive vintage look. However The most annoying part is the softness closer than 4 ft and farther than 25ft wide open but you can’t duplicate the look that 0.

If you want to learn more about it, you can check out Pavel Sinagl's review below, which really lays out the pros and cons in wonderful detail. Focus pulls for video are nice and smooth, though there isn’t a lot of room on such a small lens to keep your fingers out of the way. I don’t really have time to learn what CA even means – I’m busy using Lightroom to remove pesky purple fringing from high contrast areas of my photos. With my Fuji setup, I focus on things that make me feel good, like my family, the streets of Gothenburg and the nature of Scandinavia. It weighs only 200g in the Sony E-mount version I tested (it also comes in Canon RF and M mounts, Fuji X-mount, Nikon Z-mount, Leica L-mount, and Micro 4/3rds mounts. whereas Fujifilm has thrown in the towel with its supposed XF33mm ƒ1 ( which became the XF50mm ƒ1 in the end) ( yes, I understand I am comparing autofocus with manual focus here). Please be aware that there are some differences even between lenses of the same model from different brands. It is important to note that with the exception of Sigma, all of the Japanese camera companies currently manufacture in China or Vietnam.
