The only think I would have liked in addition would be simple example patterns of things like socks or sweaters. I love knitting and learning more about the mechanics of it, and this book is going to help me really learn the finer details of this craft.

It isn’t acceptable that in 2019 it is very difficult to find a knitting book published by a person of colour, or to find patterns featuring models that are not cis, white, and of certain ‘acceptable’ sizes. Loaded with information, “Vogue Knitting” is a perfect read for both novice and experienced knitters alike. This collection of garments to knit looks like it would be great fun and inject some much needed color into the dreary winter season.

I picked up a copy of this last summer and as my New Year’s resolution to knit more has been progressing nicely I am determined to knit myself a pair of socks. Simple to understand, it is an update from the beloved 2002 edition (which was updated from the original 1989 edition). These include cables, lace, directional knitting, advanced techniques (brioche, double knitting), shawl design, and accessories design (hats, mittens, gloves, socks). There’s a lot of information on how to design these things but a basic reference pattern would have been a nice addition. The design and construction chapters, formerly only covering sweaters, now also includes dozens of options for hats, mittens, socks, gloves, and more than 25 shawl shapes.The Special Features of This Book explains that the book is color coded and provides an overview of the contents.

Vogue Knitting, The Ultimate Knitting Book, by the Editors of Vogue Knitting Magazine, is a huge and wonderful book for your knitting library. As a knitter who wants to know as much about technique as possible, this stood out as very annoying to me; I know not every single aspect of, say, brioche, can be covered in a book like this, but I was hoping for more than two pages about it.The accessories chapters just didn't exist before, and this edition is worth the money just for these two chapters alone.
