Scott, thank you so much for being a Kapiti Wargames Club member and for being a colourful and inspirational part of our day! Tanks are easy to play than inf in FoW with less oddball scenarios so tank only starters make entry easier. Today we have a guest article from Michael Robinson, one of our readers from the USA (hence the weird spelling and currency symbols below) as he tries to help the rookies with some sage advice. Now the kit is great, giving us enough parts to make all the tanks either 75mm or 76mm with a simple turret swap.

So, to rectify this, I’m going to be writing up a few guides to help new players grow their armies from the faction specific army deals. Hit the Beach is the ultimate starter set and contains a Complete A5 Rulebook, as well as a German Army (Panzergrenadier HQ (6 figures), 2x Panzergrenadier Platoons (58 figures), 2x 7. I can see these being hugely popular and show that the now large plastic range has now born fruit allowing varied and comprehensive starter sets completely in plastic. The only one I am sure about is one of the ones on the main sprues and the beret and fantastic moustache strongly suggests he is British (only thing missing is a monocle and a cup of tea in a china cup, milk first of course, what what! I believe that is unique in terms of FOW starter sets and I don’t know why we don’t get more of them.Hit The Beach and Fury represent for many the first steps into Late War V4 for many players who aren’t converting their tried and trued forces into V4. cal teams or MMG teams (tripod mg42, vickers etc) either go on a FoW medium base or two small bases. Thats bang on 100pts and still leaves you a spare parachute rifle platoon and the option to field 76mm Shermans (the sprue allows you to make both) when the US book drops. Their trucks allowed them to move across France to Normandy far quicker than the infantry divisions marching on foot.

I was happy with my list though, it was dictated a lot by the models available, but the points cost meant I wasn’t really missing out the chance to take anything due to lack of a model.

The Fortress Europe book has also revealed the contents of the new starter armies and they are much bigger than the Mid War versions, with guns, tanks and infantry in them. I’ve already based up one Panzergrenadier platoon, but wondering whether to put the other one on single round bases for CoC - mostly because platoon-level is just more manageable for me in terms of number of models to paint. The more commonly used term D-Day comes from the fact that all operations start at H-Hour on D-Day and planning can be made for events that must happen say 2 Hours before the start at H-2 or 3 Days before at D-3 and subsequent targets say 3 Days after at D+3.

If anyone does know where the info is, could you point me in the right direction as I really don’t have a clue? The platoon is armed with enough bazookas to make any opponent think twice about assaulting with armor and the attached transport M3 half-tracks each bring a 30 or 50 cal machine gun to put the hurt on any infantry brave enough to move in the open.I know there's other games that FoW, what I was getting at was that FoW in its heyday ramped up the popularity of 15mm WW2, but now BF have shot themselves in the foot, FoW's less popular which inevitably affects 15mm as a whole. Late War is just around the corner, and to help new players join the fight and to entice old hands to have a crack at a new army, we’ve developed two great-value, low-cost two-player starter sets.

The training is harsh and thorough, and those who pass the rigorous schedule will earn their wings and become a part of an elite fighting force. As a non-tea drinker, I always thought the upper classes added the milk first to help protect their fine china from the hot tea cracking the cup but apparently I have the tea cup science all wrong (nothing new there) and the lower classes supposedly did it to protect their not so fine china drinking implements which were more likely to crack from the hot liquid. You will also find the rules, a cut-down scenario book which helps you play out fights between these tanks and also the unit cards for each so there's very little rulebook checking during gameplay. At this point the game comes to an end at the end of turn 12, and the Germans have held on for a win having dislodged the commandos on the beach front objective and held on to the Hinterland objective.

Like several other here, I thought the rain added inadvertant interest - it looked like irrigation ditches and boggy ground. They are much more a spraying weapon, making lots of noise, throwing lots of rounds out and keeping the enemy at bay. I never understood why they just didn't make new molds when the old ones wore out to keep them in production, and instead chose to have newer, inferior figs produced which many people disliked.
