Tompkins brought a "beautiful, lilting quality" to the role, with Bob-Waksberg describing his performance as "skipping above the line, which as a foil to BoJack is very funny. BoJack initially isn't a fan of the book, because he is embarrassed that he came off as a terrible person, however, he has grown more accepting of it over the course of the series. Hanawalt’s partner, the comedian Adam Conover (who rescued a draft of Coyote Doggirl from the trash), even dedicated an episode of his myth-debunking show, Adam Ruins Everything, to the misogyny and racism that underpins the cowboy narrative. BoJack does a meticulous job of depicting mental illness in the modern era, with every character representing a different way that some people cope with depression. The two eventually went their separate ways, with Bob-Waksberg moving to LA and Hanawalt moving to New York, but stayed in touch, working together on the web comic Tip Me Over, Pour Me Out. Which is sort of shameful … It’s so weird that white males are considered to be neutral, because I don’t think they are.She is a thinker who wants to make the world a better place for women and wants others to behave according to her morals even though she often breaks them. Bob-Waksberg’s stories bounce between the poles of despair and a crossed-eyed optimism about finding love, or at least solace, in this life. The show immediately struck a chord with me, and now I'm inclined to recommend it to most of my friends. We can still find solace amongst the dross of presidential amusement parks, terminal subway rides and underwater film festivals. This book doubles as both a beautiful, casual flip through, and an in depth look at how the show is made.
