Hardwood – We only sell products made from Forest Stewardship Council approved timber. The following products are made from a hardwood called Shorea. It is extremely hard wearing and is also used to make boats. We recommend oiling all timber furniture to maintain longeivity, especially if it is kept out in the full sun.

Alternatively, try inserting four or five cuttings in a small pot covered with a polythene bag. Flimsy opaque polythene bags with one or two holes perforated in them are suitable as long as they transmit a good level of light, and cuttings under them may suffer less stress than under clear polythene. Climate: Azaleas grow well in most parts of Australia, from Brisbane to Perth and south, but are at their best in cool to temperate areas. The azalea leaf miner ( Caloptilia azaleella) is a much more serious pest, and dealing with an infestation may require removal of infected plants.Azaleas require about one inch of water per week, so if your rainfall levels are on the low end of the scale, plants will need supplemental irrigation. conditions. Roots form after six to 12 weeks. If you feel resistance from a gentle tug on the stem tip, that is a sign that it has taken root. Rosy Lights': This compact (4 to 6 feet) deciduous cold-hardy shrub blooms in late spring and features a sprightly flower in a rosy red color with hues of coral and blush. This is one of the 'Northern Lights' series of azalea-rhododendron hybrids. The flowers are borne in "trusses"—not as round as traditional rhododendrons but not as diffused as conventional azaleas. It is hardy in USDA zones 3 to 7. Evergreen azaleas are perfectly hardy and easy to grow. They do best in moist soil conditions in locations where they get at least some dappled shade for part of the day from nearby tall trees. Full shade is not a good idea. Evergreen azaleas do need wind protection from cold east winds which can defoliate them a little and sometimes scorch and kill them as small plants. They may need watering in dry periods for the first year or two. Flat dwellers should try to find a cool, moderately shady position in the home, or on a balcony, perhaps shaded by other plants such as climbers.

GROWING DECIDUOUS AZALEAS

In spring, right after flowering, collect cuttings five to six inches in length taken from stem tips. Choose stems of one-year old wood that’s semi-flexible – they should bend without snapping. Common pests that can affect azaleas include nematodes, mealybugs, aphids, bark scale, spider mites, and lace bugs. Lace bugs are more likely to target shrubs that are grown in areas of full sun.
