About this deal

Our food schedule had generally consisted of eating local (white) bread for breakfast, taking lunch at a restaurant, and skipping dinner or eating a noodle soup. Plus, its all-metal construction is actually perfect for cooking several things at once since the heat gets distributed much more evenly. If your portable camp oven comes with specialised pots, make sure you use them. Most are designed to optimise cooking and cleanup for your specific unit. In my opinion, the Coleman oven is better suited for more experienced bakers. If you’re confident about your temperatures and cooking times, then you might just be able to use this without messing up anything. But if you need to sneak a peek every now and then, the fact that there’s nothing see-through about this oven will be a major issue.

Thats incredible! What a great idea. I also might have one of these old bags lying around. I might give that a try. You are not scared of setting a fire to the bag? Reply on the promotion prices as advertised in accordance with this flyer's sale dates. Our Lowest Prices of the Year are defined as the period between January 1 to December 31, 2022. Offer excludes localized promotions. The most common form of stove is the traditional two-burner with a single, large cooking grate. But should you want a grill and stove combo, say, for cooking sausage and eggs, a hybrid option like the Camp Chef Rainier 2X is pretty appealing. Keep in mind that the grill portion takes up about 2/3 of the cooktop, which can swallow valuable space for fitting a large skillet or pot. Coleman’s Cascade 3-in-1 solves that problem with both burners and removable grill/griddle accessories. Similarly, stoves like the Camp Chef Explorer allow you to swap out accessory tops, including a barbecue box or pizza oven. Griddles are separate attachments that fit over top the burners, and just like at home, they’re great for cooking up items like pancakes or a grilled cheese. This stove/range is designed to work with 20 lb bulk-style propane tanks or 16.4 oz disposable propane cylinders. It can heat the oven up to 425 degrees F (218 C). The overall size is 21 x 17.5 x 14.5 inches (53 x 44 x 37 cm). The weight when assembled is 36 lb (16.3 kg).The oven weighs 32 lb (14.5 kg) and the inner dimensions of the oven are (L x W x H) 11 x 16 x 9 inches (28 x 40.6 x 23 cm). So you realize this is a full-size oven, and it can provide the temperature in the range 250 – 400° F (121 – 204 C). We’re discussing camping ovens here and a big part of their appeal is general portability. The easier it is to bring it when you’re going camping, the better the oven. Both portable ovens have convenient carry handles, so we’re off to a good start. Christa had been a chef at her own restaurant in Switzerland for years and has always baked her bread, including while on the road. They have a Coleman camp oven as well. So with an expert on baking bread in the same oven as ours, Coen was a happy man. The stove itself is only 15 by 12cm in size and weighs 1000g, but can run on full power for over 8 hours. With a boil time of just under 5 minutes, this is slower than some stoves by a minute or so but the smaller size and weight and flexibility of fuel source make this is a generous pay off.

On the other hand, if you’re more worried about user-friendliness, convenience and just generally enjoying the cooking experience even when you’re camping, there’s no doubt in my mind that the Camp Chef oven is the better option. The Coleman oven has a max temperature of 600ºF, which is certainly impressive. That is 200ºF more than the Camp Chef oven, so if you need something capable of reaching extremely high temperatures, the Coleman oven might be a better fit for you. It has a heat indicator on the front, so you can easily tell exactly how hot it is inside the oven. Now, let’s talk about the power of the Camp Chef oven a bit. It has 7,500 BTUs per burner, while the oven has 3,000 BTUs. The power of burners is equal to that of your household stovetop, which is awesome. But the oven is not nearly as powerful, which means that cooking in it takes longer. Here is again something ingenious from the Winnerwell brand. This stove attaches to the pipe so the heat from a wood-burning stove below goes around the inner box and heats it. This model here is for a 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) pipe but as far as I know, they build them in several sizes. If we just look at the numbers, it’s not even a contest. The Coleman oven weighs a mere 7 lbs and it folds flat for easy storage and carrying. The Camp Chef oven, on the other hand, is bigger, bulkier, and weighs 32lbs total. So, what’s the catch? Thank you Richard, for that excellent idea. I’ve read it before somewhere and although we don’t have too much of a problem with the problem you are describing, it might help other people that read your comment. Reply The picture above reveals what this is about, and you have seen already in the name that this is for pizzas. So the oven has its own burner and the energy source is the bottle that you see on the side.

For bread you need stores, and for stores you need to be a village/town. Often we camp in the countryside and thus can’t buy fresh bread. This is yet another example of an oven that has its own heat source. So the inner burner is with 3500 BTU power, but you also have two range burners rated 4000 BTU each. I also used his idea and I worked out very well! I was very good able to bake some bread on a windy day on Corsica last September without the temperature inside the oven was going up and down all the time.Second, during our annual visit to the NetherlandsCoen brought me to an outdoor cooking store. We needed to buy a thermos and a set of stainless-steel camping cookwareto replace the more-than-forty-year-old aluminum version my parents took on their first camping trips. Take out the dough, knead it six times by folding it outside in. Put it in a baking form and let it rise again until it doubles in size once more. I guess for me the Coleman was the least usable of all the ovens I tried. It weighs a lot also. Just my two cents… They all work. Whether you’re camping, tailgating, or hosting a cookout, food is an integral component of the experience. Different portable camp ovens offer various features, so consider what types of food you’ll be cooking when exploring your options. Thermometer I think that if we were having an indoor propane setup we would maybe be less enthusiastic about the oven and would have evolved more like you have. We haven’t been in touch with much Dutch oven users and while we have tried some basic pot-in-a-campfire recipes, we have opted for a pressure cooker [ours is also anodized!]. Camping in high altitudes and little wood around for us makes the choice for a pressure cooker more obvious. And since space is always an issue we don’t want to add something that we would barely use… for now. You know things change and as we are driving around South America now we don’t find the need, but that might change if we are driving in another continent… Keeping the oven at the right temperature is a challenge for those who depend on cooking outdoors. When it’s cold but especially windy, it is hard to keep the temperature constant. It’s best to secure a spot void of changes in wind or temperature. At one place, high on the Chilean altiplano, we baked inside the Land Cruiser instead, converting the vehicle into a sauna in the process. As its name suggests, the SPRK+ runs on butane, which isn’t as readily available as the ubiquitous green propane canisters. In addition, butane struggles in cold temperatures (around and below freezing), so it’s less versatile than the propane designs on our list and also falls short of more winter-ready liquid-fuel models. That said, the SPRK+ is very well rounded for a butane model and handily beats out Coleman’s Classic 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove in heat output, weight, and wind protection. If you don’t mind the tradeoffs in opting for this fuel type, the Eureka is an affordable and thoughtfully designed single-burner stove. Other leading one-burner options to consider include Fore Winds’ sleek and rugged Luxe Camp Stove and Snow Peak's compact Home & Camp Burner (although both designs are much pricier than the Eureka). The likelihood is that you have only ever cooked in pots and pans over a burner. The Coleman Camp Oven opens up the possibility to cook baked goods. Whole-wheat flour is practically non-existent in Peru (and most of South America). Locals use white flour. Later on, I found (expensive) whole-wheat flour Lima’s organic stores/markets.
