A wonderful turn on a coming-of-age bucket list story with the twist of open heart surgery juxtaposed against making a zombie movie. It deals with some more serious topics like body image, homophobia, bullying but without dragging the whole mood down. I love how nowadays a cover with two cute gay boys on it is seen as a major selling point rather than an obstacle. And when u reach the day of the operation if you do not wanna give this boy the biggest hug as he prepares for it your dead inside. relatable depictions of self image/ confidence and body positivity , loving your body can be hard especially for teenagers and i just loved how this book presented that but also pushed the important message of ; scars are beautiful and so are we as people !It makes you laugh, it makes you think, and it makes you cry, but most of all, it makes you feel like you're at home. Together with his childhood friends and new love interests he will try to juggle directing a movie, trying to find a boyfriend, the idea of heart surgery and the simple stress of being a teenager. I think Jesse is quite a relateable teenage character, and his passion and talent for movie making was inspiring and believable and not overdone. Even that little "mystery" was so well developed, that it made me want to pick up Hussey's mystery novels. It was for me predictable at times and I knew certain things from the get go but I still enjoyed the ride and getting to know the characters on a deeper level. If you like audiobooks, you should definitely listen to this one, because what Chris Nelson has delivered here is perfect. The characters are fresh and believable and the scrapes they get into while filming a very ambitious sounding zombie film are hilarious. Cue Jesses hospital visit and diagnosis, heart surgery is imminent but first, the movie must be filmed - and that’s just mission one, mission two is to have a love connection before the surgery and recovery period.

Sex Education meets Love, Simon - with fake zombies - in this savagely funny gay YA romance about body image, self-acceptance and falling in love, all while shooting a low-budget zombie flick! The motivations of some characters were intriguing, but the resolution tied everything up beautifully. The trio had a Harry, Ron, and Hermione vibe to them, particularly in their loyalty and unwavering support for each other—although the relationship dynamics were quite different, if you catch my drift.
