About this deal

The United States has been at war for over two decades, the most prolonged period of conflict in the nation’s history. What is the cost of these wars? Since the seventeenth century, scholars and politicians have measured the toll of war in blood and treasure. Historically, a political aim, or desired end from the conflict, was weighed against the number of lives lost and the amount of gold spent to achieve victory; the will to fight hung in the balance of blood and treasure. Those times have changed.

Solution: Progress through Railroad missions until given the quest which has disabled the dead drop. It will point to the same drop location. The film is loyal to the spirit of the real Bill the Butcher — his cantankerousness, his charisma, his xenophobia — but diverges from historical fact in other aspects. While the Butcher is 47 years old in the film, for example, William Poole died at age 33. Daniel Day-Lewis played a heavily fictionalized version of Bill the Butcher, renamed William Cutting, in the 2002 Martin Scorsese film Gangs of New York. The chief differences between the historical Poole and the cinematic "Butcher": while Poole died before the Civil War, the fictional character is still alive and leading his street gang in 1862, and he claims his father was killed by the British at the Battle of Lundy's Lane which took place seven years before he was born. Although, he reveals to Leonardo DiCaprio’s character that he is 47 years old, making him born in 1815, unlike the real butcher, born in 1821. The character is slain in an epic street battle at the end of the film. James Turner then said, “Let us sail into him anyhow!” Turner threw aside his cloak, revealing a large Colt revolver. He drew it out and aimed it at Poole, steadying it over his left arm. The point is, I think, that beyond blood and treasure and capabilities, every war is a matter of will. Without the will to win, you'll quit against the smallest of adversaries because the death and grief "just isn't worth it". So whatever the bill, you have to measure it not just in terms of the blood and treasure, but what your purpose is in pursuing the conflict. Aemond led a force of 4,000 men in total out of King's Landing, also led by Ser Criston Cole of the Kingsguard, now Hand of the King. Aegon II, Aemond, and Criston had previously led an army of slightly less than 3,000 to the Battle at Rook's Rest, where they lost some 800 men. While in King's Landing Aemond reconstituted his forces and sent forth all their remaining strength for the advance on Harrenhal.

Second, how does senior military leadership communicate successes and challenges on the battlefield with policymakers and the people? Unfortunately, survival from battlefield injuries is not an indicator of strategic success in the mission. We must be cautious to ensure that successes in military medicine are not viewed as surrogate measures for success on the battlefield. It took 11 days for William Poole to die. The bullet didn’t penetrate his heart but rather lodged into its protective sac. On March 8, 1855, Bill the Butcher finally succumbed to his wounds.
